Miami-Dade County School Board member Luisa Santos introduced agenda item H-4 at the board’s June 17 meeting directing the superintendent of schools to review existing policies and administrative procedures governing district-affiliated social media accounts and develop recommendations to strengthen account management, security, continuity, and oversight.
The review will examine official district, school-site, departmental, and leadership social media accounts, with a focus on establishing clear standards for account ownership, credential management, naming conventions, continuity during leadership transitions, and administrative oversight.
As Miami-Dade County Public Schools continues to expand digital engagement with students, families, employees, and the broader community, this effort seeks to ensure official accounts remain secure, accessible, and consistently managed while supporting reliable communication and public trust.
“Establishing clear standards for account management and oversight will help strengthen accountability, protect institutional knowledge, and ensure families continue to receive timely and reliable information from their schools and district leaders,” Santos said. “I am proud of how our district utilizes social media to meet families and students where they are, and this is the next logical step in ensuring we maintain standards of excellence and professionalism.”
Pursuant to agenda item H-4, administration will report back to the school board with recommendations to the Personnel, Student, School & Community Support Committee no later than July.
