The Office of MDCPS School Board Member Luisa Santos is searching for an outstanding high school junior or senior who is passionate about education and community engagement to join our team to support our office’s everyday needs and successfully turn policy into action.
Who we’re looking for:
The ideal high school student intern is someone who is:
• First and foremost invested deeply in solving the issues MDCPS students, faculty, and staff undergo daily.
• Driven, organized, and ambitious.
• A self-starter who is finding solutions to problems constantly.
• Loves learning, is thirsty for feedback, and has a sense of humor.
What we require:
• Incredible spoken & written communication skills.
• An excellent note taker.
• Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office and Google Workplace (Drive, Docs, Decks, etc.).
• Hybrid commitment to the office: roughly 70% in person, 30% remote.
• Creative and flexible; willingness to learn.
• Interest in community development and political impact.
• Overcommunication: keeping us informed of all happenings.
Responsibilities:
Day-to-day work will include but is not limited to:
• Shadowing members of the team (Constituent Services, Programs, Chief of Staff).
• Clerical tasks such as mailing letters.
• Supporting note-taking for internal and external meetings.
• Updating calendars of events.
• Updating internal office databases.
• Organizing and improving office systems (web-based and in-person).
• Providing assistance for other tasks as needed.
We’re looking to fill this position by July 1. You will be expected to work approximately 5–10 hours per week.
